Do you have enough bone for dental implants?
Dental X-Rays Routinely show high levels of detail, but solely in 2 dimensions. It is generally possible form these views to judge the height of the available bone for placing implants, however, sometimes more advanced imaging techniques are sometimes required to determine the bone with which is equally important. Otherwise this can only be estimated by clinical examination.
Dental CT Scans
Nowadays there are a number of advanced X-ray techniques that allow your jaw bone to be looked in 3 dimensions. The most widely available and accurate way is the CT (computer Tomography) scan. Images obtained by CT scanning will usually be able to show all of the information required about your bone, including quantity and quality, but most importantly the presence of anatomical structures that must be avoided.
